Patient Care Technician

Job Summary

The Patient Care Technician is responsible for the care of patients through the pre-imaging and post-imaging phases of their imaging experience. Performs organizational, administrative, patient care and environmental tasks as needed to facilitate the highest quality of patient care and the efficient utilization of available resources within the scope of practice.

Essential Duties

  • Ensures an optimal patient experience by adhering to the organization’s policies and procedures, mission, vision and foundations. Treats each patient as their most important priority.
  • Assists with patient care procedures as directed by Radiology Technologist. Assists other staff members as needed.
  • Assists Radiology Technologist with patient observation. Reports abnormal observations of patient conditions immediately to radiology staff.
  • Assists patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing(s) and toileting needs.
  • Assists with rooming patients, patient transfers and discharging patients from the facility.
  • Assists Radiology Technologist with room turn over to improve center efficiency.
  • Assists with medical record preparation, maintenance, and filing.
  • Provides a friendly, safe, timely, quality driven environment responsive to the needs of the patients.
  • Responds with flexibility to changing workload and/or patient assignments. Demonstrates ability to be organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests, e.g., taking blood pressure, weight, temperature and reporting patient history summary.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock, restocking exam rooms with linen, sheets, etc.
  • Assists visitors, staff and physicians utilizing good guest relations.
  • Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and radiology staff.
  • Attends staff meetings and educational opportunities.
  • Prioritizes job responsibilities to facilitate optimum patient care and utilization of resources.
  • Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned by management.

  • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to express ideas and information clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience

  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Microsoft Office

Certifications & Licensure

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Certification
  • Valid Basic Life Support certification (BLS)

Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Current student enrolled in an accredited Radiology program or CMA with 1 – 2 years related experience in a medical office preferred
