An X-ray is the fastest and easiest way to view and assess broken bones. X-rays can show very fine hairline fractures or bone chips and can also show alignment and stabilization during healing.

Ultrasound, or sonography, obtains images from inside the human body using high frequency sound waves. As sound passes through the body, echoes are produced that identify the size of an object, its shape and consistency (solid, fluid or mixed). No radiation is used with ultrasound imaging.

Positron emission tomography (PET) scans use radioactive tracers injected intravenously (IV) to obtain images of the human body’s function and reveal information of health and disease. The scanner records signals that the tracers emit as they journeys through the body and is collected by targeted organs. A computer then interprets the signals into images, which reveal biological maps of normal organ function and failure of an organ system.

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine uses radioactive tracers to show the function of different organs within the body. These tracers are are given by intravenous injection, or swallowing a capsule. The camera used in nuclear medicine then detects the gamma rays, forming an image on the computer screen.

The only clinic in the area with a quad of MRI machines, means patients will receive the imaging specific to their specific requirements. Four different MRI rooms with night and weekend hours allows for scheduling flexibility and fast results. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses radiowaves and a strong magnetic field to produce detailed images of body tissues and organs.

More women trust AMI’s Women Center to perform their mammograms than any other clinic in Nebraska. The American College of Radiology (ACR) recommends an annual screening mammogram beginning at age 40, for women with an average risk of breast cancer.

Fluoroscopy makes a real-time video of the movements inside a part of the body by passing x-rays through the body over a period of time.

CT Scan

A computerized tomography (CT) scan combines a series of x-ray images taken from different angles around your body and uses computer processing to create cross-sectional slices of the bones, blood vessels and soft tissues inside your body. CT scan images provide more-detailed information than plain X-rays do.

DEXA/Bone Densitometry

Bone Densitometry is a form of technology known as dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) or DEXA. DEXA is a quick and painless procedure for measuring bone loss. DEXA is widely used for diagnosing the presence of osteoporosis.

Frequently Asked Questions

What preparation is necessary for my procedure?
Every procedure is different, as is every patient. At AMI, our schedulers will ask a few important questions about you and your upcoming test. The scheduler will then give you specific instructions for preparing for your examination. Some studies require specific preparations.
When will I get the results from my procedure?
AMI is proud of our focus on prompt delivery of results. For urgent studies, results are phoned immediately to your referring physician. For all other studies, results are faxed to your referring physician within 24 hours of the exam. Exceptions include imaging studies where extensive time is needed, which may take a little longer for interpretation. If you have specific concerns, please speak with your technologist.
Can I access my results through a patient portal?
Yes! AMI offers a patient portal sign up during your check in. Once registered, you will have access to your results as soon as they are ready.
