Mammography Technologist

Job Summary

Under the direction of a physician, the radiologic technologist performs mammography procedures consistent with the established standard of medical care in mammography, following policies and protocols to produce optimum images for clinical screening and diagnostic purposes, while keeping patient safety, confidentiality and comfort a top priority.

Essential Duties

  • Exhibits exemplary technical competence in performing mammographic procedures while also functioning as a patient advocate.
  • Exhibits compassion while interacting with patient, explaining procedure thoroughly and answering any questions as appropriate.
  • Ensures patient medical records are complete. Obtains accurate histories and explains rationale for procedure to patients/families.
  • Positions for appropriate view, making patient as comfortable as possible
  • Accurately produces mammographic images per protocol, making appropriate technical adjustments for body size and habitus, age, and past medical history. Analyzes technical quality of images and repeats when appropriate.
  • In conjunction with the radiologist, performs departmental special procedures including but not limited to stereotactic core biopsy.
  • Participates in the departmental Quality Control as required.
  • Maintains working knowledge of radiographic equipment operation and radiation safety.
  • Maintains knowledge of American College of Radiology certification and accreditation requirement.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as assigned by management.

  • Ability to effectively utilize department computer systems, EMR, PACS and HIS systems to review and provide accurate documentation of studies
  • Computer proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Regularly and consistently demonstrates commitment to organization values

Certifications & Licensure

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)
  • Registered Mammography Technologist (ARRT-M)
  • Nebraska State Certified Radiologic Technologist
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements for certification(s)
  • If not certified in mammography, candidate will be required to seek and pass advanced certification within 1 year of employment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Education & Experience

  • Associates Degree in applied radiologic science or certification from an accredited radiologic technology program
  • One to two years related experience
